We follow the standard Goldmine grading scale:

• Sealed (M/S) — Brand new and still factory-sealed.
• Mint (M) — Flawless in every way, with no signs of use and no cut-outs or defects on the cover. Usually still in shrink, just opened.
• Near Mint (NM / M-) — Nearly perfect. No wear on the record; no creases, cut-outs, folds, or seam splits on the cover.
• Very Good Plus (VG+) — Clearly looked after by a careful previous owner. May have slight scuffs or light scratches that don't affect play. Sleeves may show light wear or slightly turned corners, and labels may carry stickers.
• Very Good (VG) — More obvious signs of play. Some surface noise may be audible but never overpowers the music. May have light scratches that slightly affect sound, and labels or sleeves may show writing, tape, or sticker residue. We only stock VG records when they're rare or collectable.
• Good (G) / Good Plus (G+) — Plays all the way through without skipping, but with noticeable surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear. Sleeves may have seam splits, writing, or ring wear. Stocked only when rare or collectable.
• Poor (P) / Fair (F) — Cracked or badly warped, and won't play through cleanly. Sleeve heavily worn. Stocked only when rare or collectable.

Both new and used records can make these sounds, and it mostly comes down to how well the factory handled the pressing. Even a brand-new, never-played record can carry static that adds a little extra noise until it settles in.
